Why does the last stop before Death Valley get skipped?
Baker is a desert exit between Barstow and Las Vegas, not a suburb of either one. The thermometer, the fuel stops, and the houses still have to take a card and answer the phone.
The cable map ends in the cities:
Baker is a census-designated place in San Bernardino County. The 2020 census counted 442 people. A cable build is priced for a city block, not the junction of I-15 and the Death Valley road.
The park traffic still has to buy fuel:
California 127 is the road into Death Valley. The town is the last services. That shop cannot go down on a Saturday.
Satellite as the default:
When the trench never comes to Baker, the offer is a dish. Weather, upload, and a long path to orbit are the whole plan.
A hotspot is not a house:
Wi-Fi at a store or a passing stop is not a connection for the home, or for the business in Baker that has to take a card.
Upload that dies on a work call:
People in Baker work and send files from the house. A plan built only for streaming down fails the other direction.
A ticket that cannot make the drive:
When the line is down, an overseas queue does not know Baker or I-15.
What internet does isp.net actually run in Baker?
isp.net serves Baker on our own network. We do not resell Cox, Spectrum, or AT&T last mile. The autonomous system is AS27501. Two redundant datacenters in downtown Las Vegas are the core. The last mile into a Baker address is fixed wireless and microwave, aimed where the survey says the path works. How fixed wireless works. How the network is built.
That is the advantage where the cable map stopped. There is no trench to wait on. A radio on a surveyed path reaches the address. Speeds go up to 10 Gbps where line of sight and spectrum allow. The survey tells us what a given address can carry. We do not promise that number at every door.
Baker is a census-designated place in San Bernardino County, at the junction of Interstate 15 and California State Route 127, ZIP 92309. The 2020 census counted 442 people. The 134-foot thermometer on the interstate marks the 134 °F recorded in Death Valley on July 10, 1913. Mountain Pass is east toward the Nevada line, and Primm is the border town beyond it. The work here is fuel, food, and the houses that keep the exit open.

The thermometer is the landmark. The town is the exit.
Travelers know the 134-foot sign. The addresses are the fuel stops and the houses around it. Those need a path we can survey. Photo: Stan Shebs, CC BY-SA 3.0.
A small town on a big interstate

Great service and attention to detail. They came in and went through every step with us as a business. Assisted and did everything in their power to help with any concerns and assisted us in moving carriers as well as doing a follow up from start to finish. Everything was done very quickly and with care. The staff were friendly especially our salesperson! Mathew helped the most and was very attentive throughout the whole process and is a great experience in general
Great customer service, the service it self has been great as well. Highly appreciated and recommended. Make sure you ask for Mark when you call, he'll get you all set up.
Carl did an outstanding job installing our new satellite and getting our internet set up. He arrived on time, explained everything clearly, and made sure the entire system was working perfectly before he left. His professionalism, patience, and attention to detail really stood out. We're very grateful for the smooth experience--thank you, Carl!
I've had ISP.net for 10 years. I'm a residential customer and when I say I've never had an outage or slow uploads/downloads speeds belive me. I kinda chuckle at all the comments out their who have the bigger know names for service when they complain about service, price and reliability I wish I could tell them get ISP.net. pricing is very competitive for the what's out there. If I do need to call about change of email or phone number I speak to someone right away and I love that its a local business. Give them a call and try it out.
Service was done in a timely and professional manner. He explained the job intentions and made sure wifi was up and working.
