Home entertainment setup where wired connections keep gaming latency down
Fix the LAN before you blame the ISP.

This is the hands-on companion to choosing an ISP for gaming. Most “my internet is bad for games” tickets we see are Wi-Fi, a full buffer, or a 4K TV eating the uplink.

Order of operations

  1. Ethernet from wall or switch to the gaming PC.
  2. Test idle and loaded ping. If loaded ping explodes, turn on SQM/QoS or stop saturating the link.
  3. Move the access point off the TV cabinet. Details in Wi-Fi placement.
  4. If evenings are still a mess on cable, look up HomeNet at the address.
